Got a good chuckle out of this, and I bet you can imagine why. I almost thought of setting up a target, but then figured I was abusing quality spruce. Oh well, time to get back to bracing.

Hey Martin, I noticed that some of your lining butts up against the neck/tail blocks and some don't (gap). I butted all of mine against the blocks. Just wondereing if I'm missing something.

Worked on the back braces some more yesterday. Work on the top, back, and rim, and slowly been happening. and all the while, I'm working on getting RH stable around 40%, so I can glue it all together. so all the elements are converging, and I hope it happens soon. but with only a few hours per week that wind up being free, it has been tough to make any progress at all. this thing has a tap tone like you wouldn't believe. someone with the initials "BC" once wrote on his blog that Dalbergia nigra is no more "noble" than a domestic wood like sycamore. oh, yes it is.

Now don't go calling yourself a Luthier just cause you are using a noble wood :>)
Personally I won't spend that kind of money on a wood I might screw up!

somebody mentioned how they appreciate hearing about mistakes?

well when I hear an expert say something like, "be sure test on scrap!" ...that sure does sound to me like an admission of a mistake.

and I'm no expert or nuthin, but somehow my rim had a gap on the top on the waist on both sides. so i removed sections of kerfed lining and put in new ones. this pic was taken before i sanded it on the dish.



i'm leaving town for 3 days and am concerned about leaving a dehumidifier running on high, unattended. so i put my top, back, and rim in garbage bags, sealed them up, turned the dehumidifier off, and will be back on monday.

Martin, don't throw them out in the garbage just because you're leaving town and don't want to run the de-humidifier, simply package them up and send them to me, I would be more than willing to pay the shipping cost!
