Re: Continuing the steel sting o size guitar for my brother.
I did a bit more on the rosette, I used a different kind of wood from my mystery stack of rosette wood. I picked this piece because it comes out a bit red under finish. I hope to draw out the red on the redwood. I am also planning on shifting from ebony to bloodwood bindings, with the pearl purflings. In the pictures the rosette is only dry mounted. My new Bishop Cochran router base works like a dream to both cut the rosette and route out the channel.

I am not sure what, kind of wood this is. I included a picture of the blank I cut it from. I got it as part of the a rosette pack form RC-Tonewoods. Do not blame them about the mystery I sanded the name off. Maybe someone knows. If my memory serves me right it may be figured MakoreDavid L wrote:Hey John. that looks nice, have you figured out what the mystery wood is?

Very nice John!
Where did you get this jig for your router? (shown in the picture below) Does the knob adjust the depth of cut? Looks nice.

I can't help you with that John as wood species identification is not my specialty, in fact, I can't think of a single thing that is a specialty of mine!

The top knob does adjust the hight but I use it in plunge mode. The depth setting is easy. I lower the bit until it contacts the wood. I then place the the item I am inlaying or something of the correct size on that little wood platform I have on the router, and I set the stop rod on the item tighten; Remove the item and the plunge is at perfect depth.
I have the wood platform for the stop becasue my end mill is long.
It is a very nice router base.

I have selected the final elments for this guitar. I am going to go with bloodwood bindings and zipflex bindings. I will make the headstock veneer out of the same wood as the rosette, makore. This guitar will have a sloted headstock.

Thanks, the bit of sapwood was suppose to be angled down a bit more, but with all the fussing with the pearl it ended up where it is at with the glue tried. I am OK with it though.David L wrote:Aah, so the mystery rosette wood is makore, nice, I like the bit of sapwood in it.
