Thanks Ken, that sounds better than the way I did it. Also I realize that I was not specific enough in my post. When I said that the set-up kept the cut straight and square, I meant in relation to itself and not to a particular point on the guitar such as the top. Got away with it this time, will use double sticky tape next time. Thanks again!

OK, so I was undecided about whether to use black binding or white binding. I was considering white since that is what is on the Martin HD-28 and I was going to be true to spec (so to speak), but then comparing the rest of the components I realized that my FB and bridge are macassar ebony, Martin's is black ebony, so much for keeping true. Just as well though, it opens me up for more options. I decided to go with black binding, although it gets a little lost in the rosewood, I like the way it looks and I don't have the hassle of the rosewood dust discoloring it (ordered the binding Friday). So then it became heel wedge time (I carry one of those with me when I'm golfing, haha), so I have this nice piece of African Blackwood with some nice grain in it and I thought it would go nicely with the black binding. As you can see it also gets lost in the rosewood. I made another wedge out of striped ebony (some call it black and white ebony). I really like this one, good contrast with the rosewood and because of it's density and closed pores it shouldn't be to difficult with the RW dust. The issues I have with this graft is, it matches absolutely nothing else on the guitar (which may or may not matter) and now I'm wondering about how it will look with black binding, it might look good since it has the black stripes in it. Maybe that cream colored binding might look good, I don't have any to check it with. Ivoroid would probably look good but that whole extra $25 shipping BS is, well, BS. Anyway, I would sure appreciate some feedback on this as the only thing I'm decided about is that I'm undecided. Thanks!

If your were able to add a black purfling to the back and white end graph it would work well with the black bindings. I would be afraid without it the rosewood would be pushed in the back ground. Keeping it nicely framed with black, might allow the new element to work.

John, do you mean just a narrow strip (.20 or .40) going up and down the sides of the striped ebony end graft?

Yes a narrow strip along the sides on the end graft. Carefull not to trust my choices. My wife will not let me make any design decisions :)

Your wife too, huh John! That's why the workshop is stickly off limits to her, until she decides differently. I have some .060" black binding that I'm going to cut down and see how it looks. Thanks.

David,
I vote for the striped ebony. I think it will add alot of interest. Perhaps do the heel cap with the same too.
Could give it a bit of pizazz!

Heel cap of striped ebony, I like that, and then the end graft will actually match something else on the guitar. Yes Tony, I do have the fat end at the back and skinny end at the sound board, thought about which way to put it and it seems like I have seen it both ways but I could be wrong about that. regardless, that's how it's going to go as I have already chiseled the channel. I could re-cut the channel but then the graft may be too large for my liking. Thanks guys, lots of good suggestions.

Well I just looked through the "show it off section" and I'll be a monkeys uncle, I can't find a single guitar that has the end wedge oriented the way mine is. I think I'll leave mine as is unless someone can tell me why I shouldn't. It's not too late, I haven't glued it yet.
