Koa Parlor guitar ready for spraying.
I am really excited about how this guitar is looking right now. Mainly I am trying to avoid rushing to keep from screwing it up.
I have finished the zpoxy pore fill and applied a couple of applications of shellac so I am ready to spray this guitar this weekend. The Koa pores filled really fast, two applications, I sanded both back and applied a coat of thinned zpoxy. After the zpoxy cured, I very lightly sanded the back and sides and padded on a few coats of 1lb blond shellac.
Before the zpoxy I applied a few coats of shellac on the top to protect it during the zpoxy. I cleaned the top, mostly sanding back the shellac and then padded on a few applications of the 1lb blond shellac.
I am going to start spraying EM6000 this afternoon.

I agree with Tony, it does look nice. Is that top some type of cedar?

Thanks!
The top is Western Redwood. Closely related to western red cedar.

John, that guitar is going to be a beauty.
And John H, you are my age. Didn't we use to say it is "Cherry" in our day?

Re: Koa Parlor guitar ready for spraying.
I have put 12 coats of EM6000 on the body of my guitar. I did a little sanding and filling after 6 coats, and then at 11 coats, I removed a couple of drips and very lightly sanded with 400. The EM6000 really levels well. A 30 second pass on the top showed the top was already level. I had a slight run on the top of the back that I removed.
The neck is up to about 9 coats. At 8 coats I lightly sanded and removed a drip. It is also stayed really level. I am sort-of consistant when setting my gun for a wet spray that does not run. The runs I did get were from going back over an area that did not look wet enough; basically not following Tony's advise about leaving the mistakes alone until dry.
I plan just a couple more light coats on the body, and 3 or so more coats on the neck. Then I will let it sit for a week.
