Wilborn Nautilus Guitar

Post by scamp »

Finally finished my Nautilus Guitar.
For those interested in the gory details you can take a look at my "Wilborn Guitar Attempt" in the "Blog Your Project"section of this forum.
The project almost took a year to complete. A significant amount of time was spent making the forms and jigs necessary to make this unique design.
In the end, very happy with the results. Really like the look and sound of the end product. I must say that I will need to take a break before I attempt something like this again.

General Specs are...

Engelmann spruce top
EIR back
Three layer laminated sides ( EIR/Maple/EIR )
Ebony bridge
Ebony with dyed Koto bindings
Multi scale fretboard ( 25.4 base and 24.9 Treble )
Ebony arm bezel
Ebony with dyed Koto bound fret board and headstock

You took your time and it really shows. The fit of everything looks top notch. I'm amazed how your Tru Oil finish turned out. The two I did in TO don't come close to what you achieved.
You will need to do an indepth workshop for us on what all you dud.

A unique quitar that you can be very proud off.

10 thumbs up!

I'd be tempted to hire a professional photographer who shoots industrial and advertising stuff, not weddings, to take a few pictures of it with creative lighting and shadows. i think it would look awesome. Nothing against your photo work, by the way.

Drool! That’s gorgeous! How does it sound?
And you know there's a YouTube video of a guy in Mexico who builds a guitar only using a machete, right?
