Vine inlay
Here is a vine inlay I did on my last banjo. Good old DePaule.

Re: Vine inlay
I find doing inlay relaxing. Erik Sullivan (Sullivan Banjos) told me when doing cross fret inlay to leave a little wood for the fret barbs to bite into but not so much wood the fret wire doesn’t cover it. I try to get as close to that goal as I can.

Re: Vine inlay
Do you use a router or hand tools to make the pocket for the inlay?

Re: Vine inlay
I use a Dremel with a precision router base from StewMac. I also use a foot switch to turn it on and off.

Re: Vine inlay
Thanks for the info! I'm just getting started on my first kit build, and I'm considering adding some decoration.
