Fretboard is completely done and glued to the neck. I scribed the leaves and flowers. I'll shine it up once the neck is set.

When I removed the old fretboard, the top got s small booboo right next to the extension, on the left. I could have just left it alone; it wasn't very noticeable, but that's not how I operate. I decided to inlay a thin piece of awabi on each side, just to the abalone in the rosette. I decided I didn't want it below the extension, but just on each side.

I cut 2 awabi pieces on the cnc, then glued each one to 1 piece of b/w/b purfling on one side, and a piece of 6mm wide black purfling on the other. I had already marked the sides of the new extension. The black purfling goes under the fb extension, and although I've already fit the neck, will allow for any tiny tweak I might make.

I took off the rotomatics with the mop buttons and put them on the Calace Archtop. I bought new rotomatics in anticipation of buying new mop tuner buttons, but my source never got the buttons in stock. Of course I could have just switched them back, but I thought that ebony buttons might be nice, especially if I inlaid sma forget-me-nots. Then I was struck with an idea, which admittedly can be dangerous.

I have a lot of shell veneer. I've used awabi, aka white abalone, for the white flowers, as well the fretboard extension inlay. I thought of covering each side of the ebony buttons with awabi, leaving the sides black.

I cut small pieces of veneer for each tuner button and using ca glue, I glued the veneer overlay. Then I broke away the the overhang, and using files, filed each one to fit.

They're extraordinary looking, almost too bright. I thought maybe they were too much, but I laid out the buttons next to the headstock, and they seem to be just what the doctor ordered.

Pearl on the tuner buttons is a nice touch, and coordinates with the other appointments. And functional, pearl wears better. I worked in an real old building that had pearl faced elevator buttons. Anyway, that’s turning into a lovely instrument. Thanks for sharing all your artistry!

What a sweet idea the pearl looks Awesome on the buttons. The fretboard is superb. The headstock inlay is very professional looking and done beautifully. I am totally impressed. Can't wait to see the whole guitar together.
