Bending question

I've seen posts on using a small amount of fabric softener or windex, to bend some woods. How do you use each of these? Is one better than the other?

having used all 3 I feel the windex with ammonia D is the easiest to use.
super soft 2 water stains the wood and is the most costly
fabric softener you have to find a mix that works also leaves a perfume smell behind
windex comes in its own spray bottle and works without smell or water staining

I just used Windex on some flamed maple binding. It worked like a charm.

Just starting my second guitar build and first time bending. Is the technique to spray the windex on my rosewood sides just prior to bending or soak them in it for a while?

I would highly recommend you look at John's most recent Youtube video on bending and not take it from me, but I believe the technique is to spray the Windex on the wood as well as on a paper (Kraft or other) but not to the point of soaking. Definitely do not need to soak the wood. During the bending process John also rechecks under the metal sheets to make sure the moisture hasn't totally evaporated.
