A friend who recently purchased a portable sawmill has been having lots of fun cutting up trees. The other day he said to come by his place, he had some wood he wasn't going to use. He said he had some black walnut and some red gum eucalyptus. So I paid him a visit and left with some nice chucks of both.
I got 2 slabs of the eucalyptus that are 2" thick, about 16" wide and 4 feet long. There are quite a few cracks, but one slab is clear on one half and I think I can get at least a couple of guitar sets from it. The other slab will be cut up for turning blocks as it has more cracks to work around. I got a 3rd slab 3/4" thick, same size for a friend who makes boxes.
Then I got to slices of black walnut, lower part of a trunk. Once is 2" thick, the other about 1 3/8" thick. These will become duck calls and such.
Anyway thought I'd share this with you all. Its always fun and exciting to get some wood for guitars, eh??? Oh and this wood is dry ready to use too.

Very nice, Kevin. The walnut looks like it has some figure. Should make some primo calls! Would you resaw the guitar sets right away or would you keep the boards as they are?

A friend who is a professional furniture maker gave me a piece of Honduras Mahogany that is a full 3X3 and about 36 inches long - close to the right size for a neck (or two). Fun when it fall out of the sky

That red gum is dry so it could be resawn now but I don't have the time, or need the wood anytime soon so it will probably set there for now
The dark area of the walnut has very nice grain and color. The guy I got it from had made a couple of small tables from the same chuck of wood and they looked really nice.
Yes always great when we get nice wood as a gift.
