neck angle

Post by SKBarbour »

I just glue up the bolt on neck on my stew mac 000.I did plenty of pre glue checks but still have a problem. The straight edge rocks at the 12th fret where neck meets body. I have about 1/8th" at the first fret and am concened this will affect playability. It's my first build so I don't expect it to look perfect but do want it to play well. any input is apprecaited.

this video will show you how to avoid that problem. You have a neck angle of about 1 1/2 degree and you may have built the box without this in it .
You should be fine as long as the neck from the nut to the 12th fret is straight . The playability should not be bad . Can you post some pictures ? I take it you are rocking at the 12th fret where the fretboard bends down onto the body .

thanks for the info. I did radius the top though i used a sanding stick made according to the stew mac directions. perhaps I didn't sand enough or the angle on the stick was off, either way i think i will invest in radius dishes for the next build.thanks again and i'm feeling a little better about the goof up knowing that it shouldn't affect it that much.

thanks for the info. I did radius the top using a sanding stick made by the stew mac instructions but I'm sure there are mistakes to be made. The site you suggested was helpful and I'm sure on my next build I will be looking into buying radius dishes for the front and back.
