My first guitar
This is my first kit guitar. It is a Martin 000 Mahagony 24.9". I used Bill Cory's book, lot's of John's videos as a guide and took my time. I also bought Bluescreek's 000 mold, which I highly recommend. I used a bone saddle instead of the plastic one that came with the kit. The finish is Danish Oil, no pore filling, which feels quite good and was easy to apply. The most difficult bit was the setting of the neck. I did scallop the braces quite a bit. It sounds pretty darn good right away. Let's see (hear) how it develops. I will definately do another one (need to talk to John :-)
Kind regards
Michael

Nicely done, especially for a first guitar. None of your pictures show any mess?

Re: My first guitar
Well, the neck joint is not properly tight and the neck heel got damaged during neck fitting. Nothing major, just cosmetics. Will do better next time :-)johnnparchem wrote:Nicely done, especially for a first guitar. None of your pictures show any mess?

Very nice! Be sure to blog the next one here at the KGF. Are you going to stay with the 000 size?

Will do. The next one will be 000 as well, since I have the corresponding mold from John (got to make use of the initial investment :-)Danl8 wrote:Very nice! Be sure to blog the next one here at the KGF. Are you going to stay with the 000 size?
Next I want to build an all Mahogany short scale 000. Rosewood fingerboard and bridge, simple white binding and rosette. I now have 3 spruce top guitars, a standard Martin D28, a Martin CEO-7, my own build, and I want to try another type top wood.

Re: My first guitar
Nice job - and what a rush to play it for the first time. I think you picked a good first guitar model - don't forget there are lots and lots of smaller guitars that are killer, and molds are very easy to build.
