get a good cabinet grade and one 3/4 in layer is all you need. I use baltic birch myself.

Ed, you may be falling prey to Paralysis by Analysis. Too many opinions/suggestions. Go with what makes you comfortable.
However, I think if you use a GoBar to do a glue-up that will distort a 3/4", 2'x2' piece of ply you're doing something way wrong.

Good point tommy. I'll go with 3/4" baltic birch. This forum is great!

And, if you want to go over the top, have a look at the GoBar built by one of our Forum members.

I noticed in that thread that he put carpet on the top of the deck. Am I correct to assume its to help the gobars from slipping? Is that necessary or? Do other people do that with their decks?

I was just about to reply to this thread and advise to put carpeting on the top. Yes, it will keep the bars from sliding; when they let go, they let go with a vengeance! I had some extra stair tread carpets laying around and I stapled a couple to my deck a couple of days ago after falling prey to the bars slipping.

If you look at my OM blog, you'll see my super fancy gobar deck...which was built using 4 pieces of $1.48 pine from home depot! LOL
