Upside Down End Graft - What to do

Post by jbutler »

I have been working on my 4th and 5th guitars together.. I have a jig I use for my endgrafts. On this 5th one, after perfectly cutting my 4th, I happened to put this one into my jig backwards without realizing it and my graft ended up "upside down" to most grafts I have seen.. The widest part is about 5/8". any opinions on what I should do?
1) Leave it alone - it makes it unique and gives it character?
2) Make it straight - There are many straight grafts and it will look better than something upside down?
3) Make it a wide "right side up" where the narrowest part will be about 5/8"?
Thanks in advance for any opinions,
John Butler

Who is to say what direction it should run. I would leave it I actually have made a guitar that has the wedge in a different direction than one often sees on a guitar. In my opinion either direction makes sense visually. I have not had one comment on my "backwards" wedge.

I have purposely built 5 guitars that way. I like it!

I intentionally built my first one that way, I like it better.

Thanks for the input everyone. I think I'll keep it as is. Its easiest and maybe not quite the mistake I originally thought.. Glad to know others have done this intentionally!

Thanks everyone for the confirmation on my supposed mistake. I left it upside down or right side up depending on how you think about it.. I agree, It really doesn't matter and it looks fine either way. Its for my brother and he lives in another state.. I probably will be the only one ever to notice! He surely won't know the difference.

Thanks again for all the feedback. It saved me a lot of grief!
