guitar classes available

For those starting in this hobby , my best advice is to take a class. I know they are all over the web but get to know who you take them from. Yes I do give classes but so do others. These are classes that I can recommend.

Taking a class does more than just show you how to make a guitar , it can help you decide on building techniques , and tooling. Many of us have purchased tools that we never used . Knowing what works and what doesn't is well worth the investment. One thing about a class is that you get to learn without making the mistakes. The cost of the class will more than pay for itself in the money you won't spend on fixing mistakes and buying useless tooling.

John is right. Taking a class when I was beginning years ago saved me a bunch of time and money! Everyone on that list is highly qualified as a builder and a teacher. I am honored to be among those names.

I have scheduled one with Robbie O'Brien for next year. He has not formally released a schedule yet but he indicated they are filling fast just with people contacting him. I would suspect the others mentioned are filling quickly also. Point being... If you want to attend a class it is best to plan way ahead.

I've looked for some classes here in Texas, but so far came up dry. If anyone knows of any, please let me know (pm is good).
One luxury I do have is that Stephen Kinnaird lives here in Nacogdoches, so I get to pick his and Ryan Middlebrook's brains. Ryan works with Steve. But I do hate to go over there all the time, because they do have paying work to do. So I try to spread out my visits, and ask as many questions as I can think of while I'm there.

I did just what was suggested, by my own research, nearly three years ago. I went to Malone, NY, and spent a lifetime-of-memories week with Dave Nichols at Custom Pearl Inlay building my first guitar. The one I'm using to learn to play.

The suggestion only hints at the immense amount of information and exposure that week contained.

The prices for these tutorials vary quite a bit from provider to provider. I think Dave's charges are comfortable. Malone is a lovely town in can't-get-any-more-upstate New York, and lodgings for my week were at a B&B in town run by the nicest folks, the Park Street Inn. Travel from anywhere in the country and factor in the cost of lodgings and car rental, and you'll still come out happy.

My guitar teacher, a career professional Celtic performer and teacher, highly praises the guitar that I took away from my session with Dave. Dave's instruction is excellent and if my experience is typical, the instruments themselves far outperform Dave's comments in his course description.

Been there, done that, and I have a vivid collection of very happy and satisfying memories. And a very satisfying instrument.
