Steve Hensler took a class

Post by tippie53 »

I spent a great week with Steve from Oil City PA. We both did a dred build based on a 1937 spec D 28. They are Brazilian Rosewoods with red spruce tops.
Here are a few highlight pics to enjoy.

To assure the best playability we trued the neck and upper area of the guitar for a dead true fretboard plane. Note the sanding board. I didn't have to take much , just about the pencil line. The neck is dead true and this can assure a nice neck and action.
the board was trued and as you can see on the front has sandpaper. He has a compression tee bar neck and this will allow me to true the neck also.

I had a great week as well. If anyone here ever gets a chance to take one of John's classes, I highly recommend doing so. Brenda and John are great hosts and you will learn more than you can imagine. John answered every single question I had and some I had not even considered. It is awesome to see such a craftsman at work and he inspired me to be the best I could as well. The hardest part of this build will be the wait for finish... :D

Thanks again John...can't really describe how much I got out of this experience. Very happy with my new guitar. I never thought I would own something like this.

I am going to have to make a trip up that way to see if I am a long lost relative of John's :) Maybe he has family discounts or will jsut pass on his knowledge to a close relative ha ha.

It's worth a try....right?!?!?

Rick...right indeed. All I know is that John and Brenda will make you feel like family even if you aren't.
