Kevin,
glad to see this was about some chip out, and not about a trip to the ER.
I admit to becoming a bit too comfortable with trimming the overhang. Thanks for the reminder to 'be careful'!
A very close call..............

Oh Gosh, I never though that title to the thread would look a near accident......
Thank you, I am glad too! As I get older, the saws and sanders scare me more and more.
"Be Carefull" should be plastered all over the shop walls.

They get dull surprisingly quick. Spruce is hard on the cutting edges because of all the resins in the wood. I will use a bit to trim the plates and rout the binding ledges on a few guitars and have it sharpened or replace. Dull tooling and precision work do not go well together.Kevin Sjostrand wrote:New bit, only for tops and only used twice so far.

Sometimes they chip...
I made the mistake of using a fir top one time... Never again. My bindings routed somewhat well, with tear out, but routing my .040" purfling channel tore out worse than that. I've routed alot of spruce guitars with the same stewmac cutter since that time, and it still cuts good.
Not much input other than, "mine was worse". :p
