Carborundum Premier Red Dri-Lube Sandpaper

Post by Darryl Young »

FYI, this paper has been recommended to me as a great product for leveling a finish when dry sanding which is often done in the middle of spraying coats and again after all coats are sprayed. Only problem is it's sold either in packs of 100 sheets (roughly $70) or in rolls of 100 disks (roughly $50 depending on if you buy PSA or hook & loop) plus shipping. The boxes all contain the same grit so if you want to try a couple of different grits double those prices and add shipping.

I hate to tie up that much in sandpaper when I haven't used the product before and not sure how I will like it. I finally found one site that will sell individual sheets. It's in Canada and the price is listed in Canadian dollars but the exchange rate is 1.00=1.04 so only 4% difference. Their price is $0.89 CAN per sheet. Shipping is about $12 and they told me it would take 5 or 6 working days for delivery. For KTM-SV it was recommended to use P600 or P800 for leveling in the middle of finishing and then use P1000 for leveling after spraying is complete. They claim it really powders off the finish and the dri-lube works well for sanding dry where you can see when you have the finish level. Here is a link:

I placed an order today so it should be here around next Tuesday. BTW, the gentlemen answers in French but he understands English.

FYI, I spoke with folks at Carborundum and they contacted the Product Manager for feedback on the Dri Lube (Sterate) used on the Carborundum Premier Red Dri Lube paper. The PM said that the sterate used currently is compatible with both solvent and waterbased finishes so shouldn't create adhesion issues if used on finish. He specifically stated it was compatible with lacquer finishes.
