Here's the rim with the top flat (I'll be putting in the slope later) and the back to a 12" radius.

I use this sanding block for all the brace ends that I will be inlet. It is 0.10" deep. The tape on the edges is to compensate for the sand paper thickness.

Sanding the X braces to a 25' radius and the top bracing layout. I'll glue it up tomorrow.

I cut the side reinforcement strips and will chamfer them before gluing them in.

I like to use dowel register pins to locate my top, so before I glue in the top braces I locate the hole positions using my template and 1/4" dowel centering pins, center the template, mark and drill. To be sure I will have my neck tenon centered to the mortise properly I use this tip from John Hall (I have it bookmarked for easy reference). My block has a 1/16" difference from side to side:

Edit: That's a great 1937 Martin D template I got from John as well. Cut Perfectly.

Getting supplies ready to glue up the side reinforcement strips but first I have to bevel them on the belt sander. (I have some ribbon but I'm going to use that on another project).

Now for the glue up, I like to get these as straight as possible. That's going to be just about it for this morning because I have to take some time out to go see "The Hobbit" and then take my Honey out for dinner.

Side reinforcements are in. I like to line them up with the back bracing. I think it gives them a nice clean even look. Now, off to see "The Hobbit" and diner afterwards at Outback.

work is looking good. That template is being put to good use. I like the photo essay and I am sure many novice builders will benefit from this
