Been on a Chris Thile/Punch Brothers/Nickel Creek binge for the last few weeks.

Good Grief! I need to build me a mandolin..

That dude can flat play a mandolin! Probably the best I've ever heard. The best bluegrass mandolin player I've ever heard was Troy Castlebury that played with the Tennessee Gentlemen (now past away). Overall, he wasn't as talented/versatile as Chris.......but I sure loved his style and he was amazingly talented as well.

He explores several different musical styles. He likes to do his own music so doesn't stay traditional. Try this one for some bluegrass (still bluegrass with a twist, but he plays the hound out of that mandolin):

Well yeah the posted video isn't bluegrass but it just happened to be the one I was enjoying. He's pretty progressive even for 'New Grass' but that's probably why I could make the jump with him.

here's one with some standards for you Kevin: (go to about 5 minutes in for some serious jammin...)

In that last video it appears that Chris is playing the old Loyd Loar that Gibson found for him that is one serial number before (or after, can't recall which) Bill Monroe's famous mandolin.

How do you get the Youtube to appear? I copied the URL, clicked the "Youtube" button (while I was posting), then pasted the URL inside the "Youtube" commands inserted by teh button.......and it wouldn't work for me. I guess I'm lucky <smile>. I've done this on other sites and it worked fine so not sure why it won't work for me now.

there are several different youtube bbcode plugins -this one you only have to add the id of the video.

{youtube} your video id only here {/youtube}

(of course the '{' are '[' when you click on the youtube button.)
