Tony,
I said "Definately not mahogany".
I think I may need to take the dogmatic statement back. The more I look at pictures and read descriptions,
the more it appears to be Santos Mahogany. Some call it Santos Rosewood because it is more dense and heavier than other
mahoganies. However, we will not know for sure, (and maybe not even then) until I have it cut and have it "analyzed" in person by someone who knows. So when the time comes I'll share the results with you all, thanks for all of your input.
Kevin
Can you experts help me identify this wood?

Fredo...I mean Kevin, you're nothing to me now. You're not a brother, you're not a friend. I don't want to know you or what you do. I don't want to see you at the hotels, I don't want you near my house. When you see our mother, I want to know a day in advance, so I won't be there. You understand?Kevin Sjostrand wrote:Tony,

Sorry I was having a Godfather moment. Back to reality...Dude...its totally cool. With my limited wood knowledge, its a wonder I knew it was actually WOOD!

I had to pick up some stuff at LL Johnson Saturday and stopped by their surfaced lumber show room -- they sell Santos Mahogany that looks just like most other Mahoganys and interstingly they sell Santos Rosewood that looks just like East Indian Rosewood.

This wood is about 52.7 lbs per cubic foot so a heavy wood indeed.Looks like African mahogany to me but seems heavy for that .....?
