PRS with Telecaster setup

Post by Herman »

Second darksided guitar this year. The project started with love for PRS-shaped guitars and some Fender Custom Shop Tele Pickups that I had around.
A peak on the net suggested that there is no such thing around, so I thought why not?

-Red Alder body
-Canadian Big Leaf Quilted maple top
-Hard rock maple neck set neck, zero degree.
-Ebony fingerboard (That I got for free from American Customs. It was in the way they said)
-MOP inlay

The built wasn't that difficult Only sanding the top in the desired shape demanded lots of effort. The top, you know, has that wild grain, that chizeling chipped it. So sanding remained.

First impression on the tone is very pleasing Compared with the Squier Tele I got it wins hands down. Warm and wood. Tele's can sound quite harsh you know. Squier goes.

When all is settled I'll post some sounds.
Sorry for posting no acoustic now. But eventually I will.

I love it Herman!

Beautiful selections. What kind of pickups did you use?

Edit: I see I missed the pickup description at the very biginning of your post: Fender Custom Shop Tele Pickups

Very nice guitar! I do see some nice sensibilities in design from the light side.

Thanks guys for your friendly comments.

Darryl, The pickups are Fender Custom Shop Texas Specials. Sweet sounding.

My next will be a classic three tone sunburst JazzBass. Not that challenging but my neighbour pays for the stuff, that makes the hobby affordable. But I decided after that one I'll be back with an acoustic guitar. Probably a Jumbo with Sitka and Bubinga to sell. Have to think about the details that would make it different though.

That's easy Herman - just use the Sitka for the b/s and the bubinga for the top!! Maybe the first ever to do that! :-)

Good thinking Dave, or maybe I'll spray the over the waterfall bubinga a pre-'64 three tone sunburst. I 'm sure nobody done that.

Herman, you sure are getting good at this hobby! Wonderful guitar.
Can't wait to see the next acoustic (come back from the dark side).
