IT'S DONE! IT'S DONE

Post by Kevin Sjostrand »

It was 11 months ago tomorrow I started this guitar. That is too long, but that is how it goes. There are many things that turned out better on this one, being #5 then on any other build, and I also learned a few more ways not to do things. :)
That is what it's all about, right. Keep learning, and make the next one a little better. The building progress was in the blog area if you haven't already followed it here, you can take a look.

This is an OM, the shape is based on Kinkade's OM. The bracing is based on the standard X bracing.
Back and sides are curly Claro Walnut
Bindings are curly Koa.
Headstock veneer is walnut
Top is redwood
Rosette is walnut and koa
Fretboard and bridge are macassar ebony
Mohawk Nitro Instrument lacquer sprayed with the Rockler HVLP $100 system
Bone nut, saddle and bridge pins
Gotoh tuners, NS frets
Ernie Ball light/medium strings
Passive pickup is a JJB Artist

It has a nice full sound, but is not loud unless strummed with a pick. If seems pretty balanced all the way across with pretty good separation and pretty good sustain. I think it will open up more and become more resonate...at least I hope so.
Sorry no sound clip. I just couldn't bring myself to do that to you guys. :)
I will ask its new owner to record something on it when he gets it. He should have it around June 24th.
So here it is all done!

Nice Kevin...! The woods do complement each other very well. I'm thinking the new owner will be extremely pleased..

Yo chicken, annoy us with a few strums. We all bad or moderate players at best.
CLIP CLIP CLIP!

That aside, you made a gorgeous guitar, as always. Love your work. The side and binding are great next to eachother.

(Dam&^%$, I find myself next to an electric build, but this is so much more fun. Have to change that. But my neighbour keeps knocking on my door for another bass, hmmmm)
