Tru-oil + Pore Fill

Post by turnertj »

Hey all you tru oil fans...

What procedures do you use for pore filling wit tru-oil? I've heard rumors that z-poxy is not compatible with tru-oil (although that's what I did on my neck for build #1 with no il effect yet!) And LMI has a tru-oil pore fill product. I've heard Dave and others refer to a sanding method with tru-oil, but somehow can't find the exact procedure on the forum...

Thanks!

I have a bit of experiance with zpoxy used under polymerized tung oil which I think is close to Tru-Oil. It went on nice but after extended use the surface gets rough almost like the zpoxy is swelling in the pores. I stopped using the tung oil and switched to quick drying polyurethane over zpoxy. I got the same result. My last four guitars I have reverted to regular oil based filler on the neck but still used the zpoxy on the body. I must admit that I did not use any sealer such as shellac between the zpoxy and the oil finish. That may be the right approach.
