Shellac will also dissolve in mineral and gum spirits. It was often an ingredient in varnishes in days gone by. I believe Qualasole is much like the products you mention and I have heard of people using it on guitars and fiddles.
You never know what you are capable of until you actually try....

I did two tops with Qualasole. I really liked using it. I got really good results just padding it on with out a french polish technique. It was really easy to work with and built up quickly. I will use it again.
