Bob,

The bracing looks good. It will be fun to see the guitar put together.

For my D28 I have my zpoxy and hope to fill this weekend.

From my previous post, I sprayed a couple of good coats on the top before sanding the rosette down. After advice from Ken and someone else, I really had little sanding to do, which was a change from the other 2 tops I've done. Whew!
Got delayed on closing the box because of the Golf Course championship this past weekend - came in 2nd in the Seniors (gawd I hate having to say "Senior"). Won't tell you what I shot, but I was almost embarassed to pick up the money!!
Anyway, Sunday nite I put the back on.
Because the back was salvaged from my accident with the router, it did not completely cover all the kerfing when put in place. Even after using the same template to form the sides, there were some minor inconsistencies. I found one place in particular, and glued another piece of rosewood to it, and it matches well. Can't see the seam. But when I went to dry fit everything, it just wasn't perfect all the way around. So I ordered some white/bloodwood/white purfling for the back. And while at it, I ordered some bloodwood for the front, since that's kinda the "theme" wood for this one. I'll save the red that Ken sent for another build.

Here's the back after being glued on:

And, I just finished gluing the top on. The clamps on the ends weren't needed. The top fit fine at both ends. But since there are blocks under it there, I thought I'd make sure of good contact. Belts and suspenders again.

Here's the top:

I bought a pickguard during this purchase too. It has a lot of red in it. My daughter likes red - bloodwood, all that stuff. Ken had sent a clear one, which I wanted, so I'll have to test both of them to see which one she prefers.
Only problem is, the red one is for a dreadnought, and this is an OM/OOO. How much of a difference would there be between the two?
Anyone?
I wonder how easy it is to work with one of these:

Has anyone any experience with one? Recommend it? Any tips on how to use it?

I know I should at least wait until morning to undo the clamps and such, but how soon could they be released :)

Thanks for looking,
Bob

Couldn't you trim the dreadnaught sized pickguard to the OM shape? If you have another OM pickguard, you could use it as a pattern. If not, you can buy cheap and either use it on a future build or keep it as a pattern.

On the Tor-tis page of pickguards at LMI, they show the diameter of the tear-shaped sound hole radius for an OM to be 2 7/16" and for a D-28 to be 2 15/32".
I'm wondering if 1/32" is perceptible.
I'll see when it gets here Friday nite. If the radius looks "off" then the clear one will go on, and my bubinga build will get the red one!

It will be very apparent on the outside edge....I think the OM pick guards (don't know for certain) are made smaller so they don't stick on almost touching the binding. Think of how much extra real estate you have on a dread compared to the sexy narrow waist of a jumbo or OM.

Well, unless it surprises me, I'll probably stay with what I wanted at first, a clear pickguard. I can only imagine me trying to cut it down to an acceptable size.
Thanks, all.

Cutting the binding and purfling channels went off without a hitch today. Using KMG's cutting jig, I was able to be very precise. I definitely made sure the collet was securely tightened as well as the clamp holding the depth of the cut.
Man am I glad that part is over.
An email from Ken made me decide to only use CA glue at the very ends of the purfling. I'll use Elmer's Glue-All for the rest. It dries clear and has a pretty good open time. Will go slowly and take tiny steps. I'm already excited about just putting these pieces in.
Although you can't tell much, here are 2 pics of the channels. Also, showing are the bloodwood and maple purfling strips and the binding.

Tony, you might. I ain't going nooooooooooooooooo faster than this.
Meant to put on the purfling yesterday, but after routing the binding channel, I discovered a small glitch. The bloodwood end wedge chipped off. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. If it ain't one thing..............
But I have a huge piece of bloodwood from the Zootman's shop, and I thinned it down, bandsawed it, then actually created a kind of shooting board from scraps, and sanded the edges of the wedge to make them straight.
I need to make a jig. I used a small saw lined up against a scrap block to cut the sides in the guitar, then routed out the old wedge. Only had to make it a fraction bigger, and it's proportionate to the body as well.
I was very meticulous with it, and spent time sanding it flush. Came out pretty good.
The only thing is, this wood gets all over everything, including the top, which I had covered. That danged top can't hide from nuthin'!

Here's the end wedge:

Cool, Tony. I'm finishing the last of the purfling right now. Just took a break.
Here's a pic of the bloodwood after finishing like Ken showed me:

I can't take pictures that well yet. The wood is much redder than the flash lets it be.
