Well it sure looks fantastic. What color pore filler, and which lacquer is the finish?

The filler is Pore o paq I use natural and ad stain to it. I mix a few tbl spoons at a time . stain to match my color and then add 2 drops of naphtha per tbsp. I wipe this up with a plastic fork then apply it to the top. I often use a stiff short brush to work it into the pores and and let set to flash off ( about 10 minutes ) I then rub it into the wood .
I do this at least 2 sometimes 3 times.
So here is the finish schedule I use .
stain seal fill seal vinyl nitro lacquer
this was Sherwin Williams
This I will tell you was finished by Dale Bartholomew of Easton PA and we use the same finish schedule as Martin. Dale is retired from Martin and was in the finish dept. He does one heck of a job. I am now too busy to do my own finishing and found that a pro like Dale can save me time and money .

I saw a post from John Arnold on the OLF where he said he used some kind of generic wood filler (perhaps Elmers?) mixed with dark brown latex paint and water for pore filling... I meant to ask him for details but I didn't want to derail the thread...

Edit:
Here is the exact quote: (keep in mind this was in the context of a different discussion)
John Arnold wrote:After sealing with a couple of thinned coats of lacquer, I use water base pore filler on the porous woods. Early on, I discovered that the acrylic lacquer would not adhere to oil base filler, so I started mixing my own water base filler in 1979. It is nothing more than Elmer's Carpenter's Wood Filler mixed with dark brown latex paint and a bit of water.
The rest of the 'program' is straight from Mohawk's data sheets.

OK I'm brave.

Here are three pics. no pore fill, shiny and smooth.

I do a few coats of shellac sand back to 12000. 2 to 3 sets of this and then wipe on Poly.

The shellac idea came from Bill Cory and the wipe on Poly came from Ken Ceirp. Works good for me. nice thin coating but hard and protective. The first two did not turn out this well but my technique has improved.
