When I use my method , there is a precise method of location . I use the disks as do others to establish a certain geometry . I can control this very precisely . I use the rim to see the symmetry that the disk will create in the chalk that the rim will be marked with .
I also have location marks on my mold so that I know what and where things are coming off and how they are coming off . This allows me to see that the disk is coming down parallel and I need to hit my 4 points marked off on my mold . this could be done with positive stops but I don't need that as the 4 points of the mold get me close enough. I know that this is a difference in technique that we do between us so I want you to get to an understanding of what and how I do things . I am not taking it as negative critique but need you to understand the reasoning behind my method.
The variables of this system is the reaction of the top from the time it is glued to the time we glue it to the body . This will change as will any top that is exposed to a varying environment . Even Martin allows for this .
There is a spec of what the neck place to the bridge will be and Martin uses bridges between 5/16inch to 3/8 inch. Then also have a spec for saddle above the bridge and I have seen them tweak a bridge on the belt sander.
The neck fit procedure , when dry fit before finish will still need a tweak after finish . Martin uses spreaders with the mold once they are set into the mold for production.
