Finished my brother's parlor guitar!

I had a couple of slow weeks with college visits for my daughter and a family reunion. I did make enough progress on my neck so that the guitar could be ready for finishing by Sunday evening. I rough profiled the neck on a bandsaw and used some rasps to get the heel close to shape. The neck sits centered on the body and at the correct angle (A straight edge on the fretboard just touches the top of the bridge). I finally got enough nerve to drill the tenon and insert a couple of brass bolt inserts. I was going to use barrel nuts, but like the simplicity of drilling one hole for each insert. I used a couple of hole centers to transfer the location of the holes on the tenon to the neck block. My truss rod slot was a tiny bit too deep; so to assure that it did not rattle I made and epoxied a wood shim on top of the truss rod. I used a plane and a scrapper to get it level. Hopefully tomorrow I can show a completely carved neck with even string ramps as well. I will be at the GAL convention next week.

I am with Rick on this , though I do try and get at least a semitone separation between the top and back.

I had some time so I pulled out my pearl, to make my harvest moon logo. This is my third time. Based on the advice of my spouse I made the branch a bit thinner. Besides liking the picture I based the logo on, I like this design because I can use a drill bit to route the head stock. I use white mother of pearl for the moon, black pearl for the hawk and ebony for the branch. I am finding it easier to cut the pearl each time I do it. Also I managed to keep the blade straight up and down so I do not end up with angled sides. The next couple posts show some pictures of my setup and the process of cutting the logo.

The last two times I made the logo I treated the top and bottom moon as two pieces. This time I cut the entire moon out as one piece and then cut the hawk and branch out of it, still leaving me with two pieces but two matching pieces. It actually took me three times to cut the tail out of the black pearl as I kept dropping the cutout tail and losing it.

I cut the branch out of the same bit of ebony I have used for the previous logos. This was the first time the logo fit together without any file work.
