Glue for binding?

Soon I'll be ready to bind my guitar, and I'm using the tortise shell binding
I received with my Martin kit. I've read to use Duco brand cement to glue it.
Problem is, I can't find any locally. At the local craft store, in the model
building section I found Testors brand cement (available in toxic or nontoxic ha ha)
What do you think, would this stuff work?

Sorry I cannot help with this one. I do wonder, however, why they offer a 'toxic' version next to a 'non-toxic' if they do the same job .:-)

I had the same problem... I could not find the recommended brand of glue here in Canada, and Stew-Mac would not ship the stuff here.
I used plastic model cement from the hobby shop. It worked fine. It was not Testors (I can't remember the brand). If in doubt, do a small test with some scrap.
Good luck.

I some states they cannot sell the "Toxic" glue to kids (To keep 'em from sniffing the stuff) but adults still want the "Real stuff" so they carry both...bet that's it...
No clue on glue substitute...I've seen it some where but can't find it... :(
Here..I finially found THIS:

Yeah unfortunately there's lots of materials that are difficult to locate in Canada.... I'll have more questions when it comes to putting a finish on this project! ha ha
I did read something on another discussion about using CA but I'm not sure it would be ok to use CA on the plastic binding??? I could test that Testors stuff and see if it works I guess.... or the thread that Ray mentioned suggests Weld On... don't know if I can find any of that stuff around.

There are several builders who will only use CA when doing plastic binding so I think you'll be fine with that. If you do use the CA, go around the guitar several times using VERY little CA as it will wick into the binding area and down the inside very quickly if not careful. DAMHIKT. Also don't use the CA directly from the bottle. Attach a micro pipette to the bottle, much easier to control how much you use and placement also.

When using CA, its always a good idea to brush on a layer of finish on a spruce top to prevent the CA from seeping into the wood. It will turn a bright yellow. ALso, use accelerator...the CA crystalizes before it has a chance to really soak in and start to discolor.

Another glue that works if you can't find Duco is weldwood

I went to my local hardware store this morning and picked some of their housebrand plastic model cement... i used it to glue 3 pieces of binding to scrap pieces of spruce. I'll let it dry until tomorrow and then see if it worked. If it works, I'll be able to start gluing in binding very soon!
