Kevin,
I really enjoyed your series on this build, and it's inspiring. I like the idea of a bolt down fretboard extension. A beautiful instrument.

Thanks Mike
I did some flat sanding on the past weekend and needed to fill some gaps along the side purfling, so I wound up spraying 6 more coats. So I ended up with what I usually do which is about 16 coats.
Looks good now so I'll sand and buff in about a week

The guitar finish is buffed out and I'm gluing down the bridge.
The finish turned out pretty good. The back and sides look flat and smooth/shiny, but the top shows "ripples" even though I flat sanded up the grits from 600, 800, 1000, 1500.
I used a large eraser as the sanding block this time, perhaps that was the culprit although ive done it before and not had this result.
I also use a wood block with leather surface for my wet sanding but didn't this time. Hmmm!

Strings are on, action is set as low as it can be at the first fret and at the 12th fret, low E is 5/64th, high E is 1/16".
It plays nice and has a beautiful bright ringing tone.
Ernie Ball Earthwoods Lights is what I like.
If there's anyway I can record a few chords I'll post it.

Nice work Kevin, just bought 3 EIR b/s sets. A lot of the info you posted on this build should help working with this wood for the first time.

You'll find it easy to work with. Planes easy, bends easy, routes easy, sands easy, looks FANTASTIC in my opinion. Sounds great with spruce or redwood tops.
I've done 7 with EIR so far. I have one set left.
If Stewmac puts them on sale again like last summer; I think they were just under $70 a set....rough sawn, I'll get some more.
