Getting started

Post by Datrek »

I bought the kit a few months ago now, but its time to get started building this thing. Its going to be a copy of a Martin 000-18 pre war specs. Its my first build so I expect it to take some time, I know I am going to make some mistakes but from what I've read most are correctable. I have Bill Cory's "Building Martin-style Acoustic Guitar Kits" book, which is very detailed so if I can follow instructions I should be ok with most of it. I am a little worried about getting the neck angle right and locating the bridge. I just moved to Vancouver on Dec. 1st so I don't know any luthiers around here I can ask for help. So you guys and girls will have to fill in :) I don't have much room to work with here, barely enough to get around 3 sides of my work bench. Ah well, I love a challenge. Here goes nothing......

Good luck and have fun with your first. Fortunately you don't need much space for building guitars. I've built a few now from this little corner of my basement behind the stairs without much hassle.
