Aging toner

Post by watergunn »

Hi guys.
Does anyone have a recipe for the aging toner that Martin uses on their tops?

I have the trans tint dyes to mix into nitro that will get it close.

Just wondering if anyone had done this before with trans tint dyes.

Thanks

martin uses a number of mixes.
which one you looking for?

I can tell you if you put Nitro in a glass jar in the sun you can make your own and it is better than the mixes

Deja vu! I have some aged that way and it is WAY better than the dye.

I did not know there were different colors they used.
The client said he wanted the toner on the adi top on the D42 I am building.

I will put a jar out tomorrow.

I used some of StewMacs spray lacquer toner in the honey amber color on an earlier guitar. It looked great.
But I did not want to mix it with the Cardinal lacquer I use now. I was worried that they may not work well together.

If creating toners with dye for these type finishes, be aware that the same shade of toner will appear different on different species of spruce. One that looks good on Sitka can be a bit yellow on adi and so on.
You never know what you are capable of until you actually try....
