Finishing Ebony Headstock

I plan to put an ebony veneer on my head stock and need some finishing advice. I plan to stain it black since it has some streaks. After sanding, do I seal with sealer before spraying with nitro??

Yes, all wood should be sealed before the first cost of finish.
You never know what you are capable of until you actually try....
