Pick ups

Post by watergunn »

Has anyone here have an opinion on the K&K acoustic pick ups?

I was thinking of installing one an an existng build and had read some good reviews on it.

Are there better alternatives without spending big bucks?

Thanks

For my money, there is none better. I have installed many and every time i get rave reviews from the new owners. IMO, it has the purest acoustic sound out there. I use the pure mini and recommend the LR Baggs Para Acoustic DI pre. Several pro customers of mine use this setup. You won't go wrong with either and you won't be disappointed.

If I were doing it for just playing with my basic acoustic amp is it fine to do just the pick up and not a pre amp?

Check out JJB Electronics. He makes a 3 transducer pickup, passive, like the K & K for $50. I have it in my guitar and have put it in two others, and the sound I think is pretty awesome. Good product, good service.

I've used both, don't know if I got a bad one JJB) but it didn't come close to the K&K, so for an extra $40 I'll stick with the K&K. But remember, that is just my experience.

I have to say I can't compare it because I haven't used the K & K Mini, but what I have heard has been very good.
We took the Macacuaba Dred with the JBB to Guitar Center and plugged it into the same amp, compared it to a $3000 Taylor and a $3000 Martin, and the JJB sounded better....of course, it may have been the guitar. :>)

I think I know what type systems they have in them and I would have to agree, although I prefer the K&K over the JJB, I'd take them (JJB) over the what the others use. And I wouldn't be surprised at all if your guitar wasn't better sounding as well Kevin. Everyone that tries my guitars think they arre as good or better than the "name' brands.

I have an old Fishman Pocket Blender that I used with a 12-string Taylor with under saddle pickup and a microphone. Can I use it as a pre-amp with a K&K or JJB pickup?
