Help Finishing this OM Kit

Post by segovia »

I need some help (motivation) to finish this OM kit.

It was started in June 2012 !

The last step I worked on was fitting the neck to the body, the neck angle is Ok but the neck is slightly off centre. I have put one coat of water based lacquer on the neck and the body has been pore filled. The braces are showing through the sides in some areas as the binding didn't cover them. I am pondering taking the binding off and replacing it with something deeper.

How many places does this occur? You may try splicing in a sliver of the side wood, and sanding it flush. I would try that first....if you are careful, it might work well. If you are not satisfied with it, you would be routing the binding off past that correction anyway.

So, my big brother was playing guitar and I figured I'd try it too.

Hi Ken

It is where the x braces meets the side so 4 places in the top and about 2 on the back.

Something is telling me to leave well alone and then I think its binding practice I can carry forward on to my next

I am with Ken, instead of routing off the bindings or leaving it alone. Use a chisel to pare back the places the brace shows through enough to glue a patch of side wood into the rebate, .05" inch or so. Basically inlay side wood over the braces nubs. I will bet if you are careful with grain direction nobody would notice. I think it is too nice looking of a guitar to leave it.
