I was reading the Jonathan Kinkade book last night and noticed for the first time that he notches the X brace and tucks the adjoining braces underneath the x brace, is this common practice ?

Re: Braces tucked into x braces
This was done in the old days by Martin but they have long since quit doing it. If you glue doesn't break loose, then there is no difference between tucking braces and not tucking. I would want to glue the end of the brace to the X brace to help hold it in place. I personally don't do this but some still do. I would guess most don't.

Re: Braces tucked into x braces
I have done it both ways. I do agree there is a rigidity you can gain from the interlock . This was done on Martins up to the 60's. When I notch for the braces I use a miter on the nose and not a through notch. Can it make a difference ? I don't know but on conversions or pre war specs when I build them it is how I do it.
With todays glues , I don't think it is as important as it was in the older days.

Re: Braces tucked into x braces
Found a good Pic of a builder (Blazer & Henkes) who tucked the braces on this particular build. Looks bomb proof...!
