New neck for a Martin OM kit

Post by segovia »

I bought an OM kit from JH a while ago I have assembled the body and I am now ready to join the neck to the body. The neck is a bit too thin at the nut for my playing style so I was contemplating making a new neck from scratch. This will benefit in two ways as I get to practice neck making I get a neck of the width I desire. It's a dovetail neck joint, what are the chances of matching the new dovetail with the existing pre cut neck block ?

I think there are some tutorials on carving a dovetail by hand, using hand tools (saws and chisels) over on the OLF.

Like John said, for practice get some cheap wood from the local borg store. I

Same situation with me. I just narrowed the fretboard a bit then added bindings to make it wider. I increased it to 1.75" from 1 11/16. When sanding I just blended it in. You can't even notice the fretboard is wider than the neck at the top.
