Second electric bassguitar

Fortunately there are lots of friends surrounding me that can play a guitar. Unfortunately they play electric most of the time. So I choose to build for them on the dark side of our hobby. Otherwise I end up with a huge pile of acoustics in my house. But my next definitely will be an acoustic anyway.

This bass is built for my friend Frank that he is going to give it to his son Pim, in exchange for some extra effort to finish his highschool (that he did btw).
Pim designed the guitar by himself. The body is Alder with a tiger-flame maple top, a plain maple neck with a ebony fingerboard. Seymour Duncan -Music Man style- pickup and Hipshot bridge.
It's going to help him to cut through the mix of some real heavy garage-punk.

That looks really sweet. That boy must have some long arms, that neck looks really long. Is it normal length, or a custom scale?

Every time I am on to an electric build, I omit to be present often here. But still it is a warm place to return. Maybe you guys are too friendly, but I like it.

Dave, No I don't want to build an acoustic bass. I've played some of them, but my perception is that the jumbo bodies always are too small for the job. A double bass has a huge body for a good reason.
I guess If someone wants me to build him such a bass, I'll turn him down. No chance for succes imo.

Kevin, the scale is 34"". Nothing special, but the design of the body is very small. Too small for my taste. But It was Pim's call. The neck looks long indeed. Well observed!

Don't know if there it is really cool what I'm doing, but I like to try out several things. Some friends of mine think a productionline of some model would be the ultimate succes in guitar building. To me it would turn into work, with all the obligations of it.
I lost my motorcycle-hobby since I work in that business. I won't do that to my guitar adventures. So I will stay on the amateur side. And if you label the builds as "cool" I think I'm doing fine. Thanks again.

Anytime I've tried to make money out of doing something that I really enjoy doing, I end up not enjoying it anymore, it becomes work. I like not being tied to schedules, deadlines, etc... I get enough of that in everyday life.
