Read "CUT THE SIDES TO THE CORRECT SIZE" section of Bill Cory's books. I have the sides positioned in the mold the way I want them. The sides meet nicely at the neck joint end. The sides overlap a little bit at the tail block end. I used a square to draw my lines on the sides where the cuts need to be made. I'll acquire a razor saw this weekend and make the cuts. After that I'm just going to let the sides hang out in the mold for a few more days while I finish the jig that I'll use to radius the sides.

Coming Up

- Hopefully this weekend I can figure out how to upload a few pictures

When I got my kit from John there were some "spare" parts and he told me that he oftentimes just throws in a a few odds and ends for whatever. (everybody likes freebies).

Thanks David. I haven't found a heel cap for the bottom of the neck so the one inch square must be to shape one. The plastic wire very well could be an extra.

Well, I took a few pictures but is it still a requirement that the pictures exist somewhere on the internet so that this forum can link to the location? Where does everyone upload their pictures to first?

you can upload from your computer . The plastic "wire" is for the side dots on the fret boards.

I still have a few more days before I can start gluing anything up so I'm taking measurements and dry fitting things. I have a concern about my X bracing. Everything I've read and seen suggests that the joint at intersection of the X brace should fit snug. My X brace joint fits fairly loose but yet the angle of the joint is preventing the braces from laying out on the bracing template drawn on the top by a fairly good margin. I'm sure I can sand more wood off of the joint to allow them to lay out in position but it seems to me way too much wood has been removed. Is it common for the X braces to start out this way or is there something wrong with the joint on my braces?

John / Tony, thanks a lot for the information about the fret board dots. The diameter seemed so small I never would have thought of that. Thanks again.

make sure you put the braces on the right way . you can set the braces where you will set the angle wrong . Take the top brace out turn it 180 degress and see how that fits. You want to allow a space for glue . Too tight a joint and you wipe the glue off . That is why you place a cotton reinforcement over the joints.
Remember this isn't a floor joist . I don't use a top plate as I have seen way too many of them fail . Never seen a cotton patch fail yet .
