Re: Gobar deck built on my Sjobergs bench
We now have 3 guitars under construction. We built another Gobar deck to fit on the Sjobergs bench. We also built some detachabe vice "tables". they mount securely with the 1" round bench dogs. I want to get some radius boards next. It seems the best way to clamp tops and backs.

I just bought a used 5' Sjobergs bench top ($100 off craigslist) and made the base myself. This thread has given me some real good ideas to use. Thanks.

Finally got around to it. I secured the top to the base with 2 lag screws. The bench came with a hold down clamp, 4 dogs, sliding hold down on the front face and 2 home made dogs that attach across the bench. I made the base so I could pull a chair up underneath and work on setups and such. All-in-all not bad for $115 (top + base).Victory Pete wrote:My Sjobergs is my favorite tool in my shop. That is a great deal, if you want to finish your base get some of this, it is what Sjobergs uses. http://www.woodcraft.com/product/200076 ... quart.aspxBen-Had wrote:Finally got around to it. I use it on all of the jigs, cauls and other woodwork in my shop. I need to get some more dogs and those clamps. What size holes do you have?

The dog holes are 3/4" and the hold down holes are 1 1/2".

Are you not putting a radius on your tops and backs?Victory Pete wrote:Glued up the top braces. This contraption works great.

Re: Gobar deck built on my Sjobergs bench
My first StewMac kit was assembled according to their own directions, they dont address a radius dish for the top, they show the top being clamped to a flat board. they do however have you make up radius cauls for the back. I have since purchased a 28' dish from John. I havent used it yet though, I look forward to soon. My first top does have some radius to it though, so I suppose all is not lost. I just wonder why StewMac has people use a flat board when they could easily be selling their own radius dishes to customers, they do seem a bit confusing at times.rienk wrote:Are you not putting a radius on your tops and backs?Victory Pete wrote:Glued up the top braces.
