Mineral spots in Peruvian Walnut

Dave,
Haven't had much of a chance to work on it. Been 'Honey Doing' a bunch of stuff in preparation for Easter. Hope to get back to the minerals in a day or so.

I have some white spots; mineral deposits I am figuring also, in my Santos Mahogany, and a wet wipe with Acetone seems to remove them. Perhaps it is not mineral. Seems strange that there would be mineral in the middle of a tree.

Why would that be strange? There are lots of minerals dissolved in the water they absorb. Once the water is actually processed, what will remain are all the minerals that crystallize and precipitate out of the water.

many woods will have mineral spots. As states above , water can carry many elements.

Well, I think I may have the problem solved.
Here's what did not work:
vinegar, acetone, mineral spirits, alcohol, TSP, watered down muriatic acid and oxalic acid.

One of the first things I tried was shellac and it appeared that it was not working until I revisited the shellacked area a week later. All spots in that area have disappeared or should I say, have been hidden by the shellac. I intend to test the shellac again on different parts of the wood and look forward to similar positive results.
