Re: tru-oil, again
Dave,
I never saw your gut! I tried Tru-Oil on my first guitar, and didn't like the results. I sanded it off and sprayed lacquer.
You make it look easy in the video. I have wanted to try it again on a neck, and when I do, I will consider your way. It looks good and makes sense. I tried to put too much on at a time, but then didn't get enough on in the end.
When will it be done?
Kevin

Should be done this week, so in reality it will be next week. I hope.
Re: tru-oil, again
After 7 coats; another 5 or so should do it.

Looking great. Are the pores all filled at 7 coats?

Pores are almost filled. This was an experiment which I think will work out ok, but I will revert to pore filling as the first step - it's really easy to do with the TO anyway.

I was just perusing Grizzly's "Outlet Store" and found these applicator pads for $3 plus shipping for pack of 12

Re: tru-oil, again
I found this document on Birchwood Casey's site. There really isn't much new here, although they do discuss using their water based stain ahead of the finishing if you are interested.
Warning, it's a large .pdf

Re: tru-oil, again
Hello all,
I’ve sanded the back of my 000 up to 12,000 grit micro-mesh, but have not yet applied any coats of tru-oil. I thought you all might be interested in how 12,000 looks on rosewood.
I decided to go through all steps on the back before proceeding with other sections since it is relatively flat and straightforward. So now its on to tru-oiling the back. This is fun.

jeebus... you did that.. *by* *hand* ?
my arm hurts just thinking about that!
Do you anticipate any adhesion problems with the tru-oil with that much sheen on the wood?
