Fretboard

Hi!
What work needs to be done with the fretboard to make it look nice. Do you sand it lightly and use some kind of oil after sanding?

For me, prior to fretting is just getting nice and level with the proper radius.

Once it has frets, I don't put sandpaper on it. Just a light cleaning and the occasional application of some "Fret Doctor" keeps them looking fresh and clean.

+1 if it's new, if it's a little older and needs a freshen up I use 0000 steel wool and light coating of mineral oil (I know, I know some of you don't like mineral oil but - "I bane using it fer 40+ year and ain't haid no never mind with it yit.").

One thing I like to do is bind the board. This saves having to deal with fret ends and possible chipping later on,does not have to be flashy. I generally bind with cut offs of the board or wood of the same color as board. A bit extra work to cut back the tangs but to me it does a nice clean job.

It depends on the wood , I like to prep the board and level them . I started doing leveling on the guitar then fretting . When I level up the board and sand to about 600 grit and polish Once fretted I buff again .

I use a touch of 3 in 1 oil and wax to shine them up.
