Steve Baughman's new DVD lessons

Post by deadedith »

I bought a copy of Steve's "The Power of the Claw" - 70 minute instructional DVD.

It's got me really excited to try what is to me a new method. Basically it is a frailing/clawhammer approach for steel string guitar. It is amazing what the method can accomplish building on a fairly simply foundation.
He's a personable guy and a formidable talent; the dvd is easily navigable, the sound and camera quality is very good, and he is a great teacher.

Go here for a 10 minute demo: (btw, the dvd is WAY better in quality, scenery and all other aspects than the youtube demo)

I don't know what guitar he is playing but it looks a LOT like the cutaway Ditson I've been blogging!

He said "Tim - do not buy the dvd if the vid affected you that much!! :-)"

But it was too late! Like Ray Stevens streaking the grocery store!!

That style of playing sounds pretty neat. I can see it would be fun to learn, but it will never happen with me.

Very cool Dave,
I've seen that for years on Banjo, but not steel string. I think I'll give it a try since I'm horrible at finger picking. Maybe an old dog can learn a new trick.

Where can you get this? I searched on Google and found books and his performance DVDs but didn't find an instructional DVD.
