Easy hook on razor blades

I have a scraper burnisher from Veritas, and it works great. A lot of the time, though, what I need is a very sharp razor blade with a hook on it. Which can be done by burnishing the blade on a hardened steel surface. However that is not always accurate.

So I pulled the carbon rod out of the Veritas burnisher, turned it around and reinserted it with the carbon rod on the outside. You can burnish the razor blade accurately, draw out a hook to different degrees, and that can be a real help.

I just run it against my vice, but that looks pretty cool.

Vice works fine, and if I did not have this that's what I would be using. This device does allow you to set the hook on the razor at various angles, but that's not such a big deal.

It would actually be really nice....you approach scraping wood a bit differently than scraping a little finish drip, and this could really allow you to fine tune the scraper.

I think mine came from Lee Valley. Woodcraft also has them:

I use the smooth end of a dull 1/4" spiral carbide router bit. The key with whatever you use is using a light touch. It doesn't take much to draw a burr.
