Home made binding

Post by jread »

We’ll it’s not perfect but I finally made my own maple binding instead paying for the pre cut stuff.

It wasn’t hard to rip them now that I have a nice table saw. Then get to exact thickness in the drum sander. I could have done a better job on the channels but was happy to get it all in with side and top/back purfling. Couple of thin spots and gaps to improve on next time.

There you go.
I've made lots of binding just that way and also from the cut offs of sides. A great place to get a set of bindings from. And they are already almost to thickness too.
EIR, walnut, sapele I've made from sides after cutting to shape.
