I never cut through the sides. This could be trouble if you over cut and the binding can't hide it. How are you controlling the neck block?

Thanks John, will catalog that!
As far as the neck block, that ship sailed a long time ago, but I used engineering squares and a long clamp between neck and tail to keep it square while I glued the final top on. I have since seen many of your videos and posts about the neck block in regard to settin the neck angle. Have learned a lot on this build!

I had that problem. I fixed it by inserting a sliver of a patch to rebuild the side. I suppose I might be able to find the patch if I looked for it, but it's so thin it's virtually invisible.tippie53 wrote:I never cut through the sides. I continue to extend the braces through the sides, to ensure that the ends of the braces are fully supported, only now I'm more careful how deep I cut the notches.
The practice of notching only the kerfing, as John does, seems a lot more elegant and professional though. Maybe someday I may get good enough at this to feel confident about trying that.

Looking good. I don't cut through the sides anymore, just the kerfing.
