Sharing the good news with the not-so-good

I entered two guitars, a 6-string and a 12-string, in a Fine Crafts Show organized by our local Arts Council. Both guitars were juried into the show, so I was pleased. We went to the opening of the show today, where prizes were presented in categories for Jewellery, glass, ceramics, textiles, etc. The "Wood" category was won by a very fine flame birch and maple sideboard - very well deserved. So my guitars didn't make the cut. But then they announced the Best in Show, and it was my symmetrical X-braced OM 12-string! I was gobsmacked . . . To be clear, this is not a lutherie show, and in fact these were the only guitars in the show, but I still felt pretty good about winning, but also about showing how lutherie can stand on its own as a "fine craft" in the world of art. A very generous cash prize will go partly to Ukraine relief, and perhaps some tonewood. A couple of reminder photos below, but for more, I took you through the ups and downs of building this guitar here:

And I have to give credit for all the help given here on the forum along the way! Bruce W., Ladysmith, BC.

Beautiful instrument! I don’t think the average person understands the amount of precision work and time that goes into building a guitar, so it is wonderful to receive such an acknowledgment. Great job!

Good show!
You should be proud. I'd think I'd be afraid to enter one of my guitars in a show.
You did great and the guitar turned out swell!

Kudos to you!

For a while, I was a member of the Sacramento Area Woodworkers, but I think I was the only luthier in the bunch.
