This one is notable because somebody is paying me to make it for them. It came out pretty well. At any rate, it sounds good.\\

The economics of the deal

I added up the cost of materials for the dulcimer and case. It's somewhere around $343. The Waverly planetary tuners alone were around $100. I'm getting $500 for the dulcimer + case. "Profit" is therefore around $157. I worked at least 157 hours on it. A dollar an hour?
And that doesn't consider operating expenses like electricity and and the cost of tools and the cost of gas to drive a couple hundred miles to Northwind Tonewoods to pick up the cherry, and on and on.
It's clearly no way to get rich! But it sure is fun.

Flat Creek Dulcimer Shop. The four 1-1/2" diameter inserts cost $23, including shipping.

I originally had a brass nut on it -- an experiment. I didn't like it. The strings had an unpleasant shrill "zing" overtone. I replaced the brass nut with one made of Corian. The sound is much more pleasant.
