Finally finished the sycamore.
Sycamore back and sides
Bearclaw sitka top
Rosewood fretboard and bridge
Five piece laminated neck
Cocobolo trim
Bone nut, saddle and bridgepins
Grover stayrite gold tuners and gold fretwire
Walnut headstock
Veeeeeery nice!! That bearclaw looks sweet. Can you post pics of the cocobolo bindings and that gold fret wire? I'd like to see what that looks like on an actual guitar.
That was the neat thing about building three at a time.
All three are OM size, identically braced, two with bearclaw sitka tops one with sinker redwood.
I can play one, then the other, then the other and compare side by side.
They all sound good to me, but they are each different.
The sycamore doesn't have the bass of the mango or koa.
The koa is very balanced.
The mango has a really full rich sound.
I want to build at least one more with a sinker top for the look and the sound.
The sinker has unbelieveable sustain.
Thats it....I gotta get some sinker.....might be fun to build two identicals side by side except for the tops....one with sinker, and one with the 30 year old redwood top I have.
How do you like the Sycamore? I had heard it makes a pretty nice tonewood. I like the looks of it. Pretty adventurous to work on three at a time! I have two going right now, but I never seem to work on both at the same time. I will work on one for several weeks then go back to the other and bring it up to the same point.
